On October 10th, actress Jeon Jong-seo had an interview about Netflix’s film “Ballerina” (director Lee Chung-hyun) at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
“Ballerina” is a revenge movie about former bodyguard Ok-ju (Jeon Jong-seo) hunting Choi Pro (Kim Ji-hoon), who caused the death of her precious friend Choi Min-hee (Park Yoo-rim).
When asked how she felt about “Ballerina” screening at the 28th Busan International Film Festival, Jeon Jong-seo confessed, “It was my first time watching it on such a big screen in Busan. It’s different from watching it a home. The music also sounded differently.” Regarding the reason she decided to star in the movie, the actress shared, “There is a certain subject to protect in the work. As an actress, I’ve always had the desire to try a kind of movie in which I can protect someone, not just a revenge”.

“Ballerina” is a movie by director Lee Chung-hyun, whom she is dating openly. When asked if there were any difficulties for a couple to work together, Jeon Jong-seo said, “Director Lee Chung-hyun is interested in films that can realize what he wants to do if he were an actor. He also has a desire and interest in narratives centering on female characters. As an actress, there’s a genre merit of making an appearance in Lee Chung-hyun’s films.”
In fact, Jeon Jong-seo also worked with director Lee Chung-hyun in her previous movie “The Call”. In this regard, the actress frankly said, “I’ve never thought about comparing the two works because their genres are different. There was a change. I also don’t know what he’s going to do next, but I guess it will be a different genre. I think I was able to break the taboos with ‘The Call’ and took a new challenge with ‘Ballerina’.”

At the production briefing of “Ballerina”, director Lee said, “We filmed the movie carefully without causing concerns to staff”. In this regard, Jeon Jong-seo shared, “I only heard about it later on. I didn’t have that thought at the beginning because I only focused on the movie. I didn’t talk with the director much on the set because we already talked with each other before the shoot. ‘Ballerina’ is no different from any other movie I’ve done. All the staff were also around our age and they had a lot of young energy.”
“Ballerina” premiered on Netflix on October 6th.
